Ever changing Áine

I'm a software tester with an interest in creative writing, lomography, reading and make up. I'm also an irish dancer that teaches and runs her own Irish dancing school! Am part of a trad band based in Brighton and we play in various pubs. I'm always up for a bit of craic!

The blog will contain stuff about fitness, health, endometriosis, irish dance, make up, all kinds of photography and anything else that makes me smile. I do post the odd personal bit too so you'll get to know me eventually! Any questions feel free to ask! I've set up a separate beauty blog as my addiction grows. You can find it here: http://ainebeauty.tumblr.com/

Women in Olympics

Leisel Jones, Australian Olympic Swimmer, Faces Weight Criticism From Aussie Media

This gets on my goat.  What is it with objectifying women in sport - all the comments about the bikinis for the volleyball team, the next to nothing swim suits, or anything else that gives them a view.

Really? Great.  Very liberating to know that these people work their ass off to get to where they do in their sport.  Then we get to talk about how they look :) Not their sporting strength, nope, it’s what they’re wearing.

I’ve also started to notice some teen swoon images of Tom Daley.  So it cuts both ways, I just rarely see women swooning over men and commenting on them in such a fashion. Unless they’re dead young.  I’ve never really bothered with it to be honest, I rarely find famous people to fancy.  When I was single I simply didn’t bother, better things to be doing and discussing!

It just grinds my gears objectifying women and not even realising you’re doing it.  No wonder we’re still trying to retrain men to not think “She deserved it” to “It was me, it wasn’t her fault”.  Disappointing.  I guess I still have grudge. I was almost once attacked myself, thankfully I had the wherewithal to get into a taxi and get the hell home.  So I don’t take kindy to men thinking they can talk about and act towards women in such a fashion.  I don’t care if it’s the norm.  It shouldn’t be.
